This year’s edition of Forest Camp 2024, proudly sponsored by Vallfirest and organized by the Association of Independent Fire Experts (SNEP), took place in the breathtaking Polish mountains of Bardo - Miasto Cudów. The event, known for its high-caliber training that exceeds expectations, saw a remarkable convergence of firefighting expertise from four continents. Participants from 13 countries, including the United States, Mexico, South Africa, Czech Republic, Australia, Germany, Canada, Slovenia, Spain, Serbia, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, came together for this two-day event filled with action and learning.
At Vallfirest, we are committed to advancing wildfire firefighting techniques and strategies. This year’s camp focused on controlled burns, a crucial aspect of forest management and fire prevention. However, the training also covered a broad range of fundamental areas essential for modern firefighting. These included first aid, the use of manual tools like the Gorgui and Drip Torch, personal protective equipment (PPE), vft Black Hawk pumps, skid units, and water lines. Our experts led a significant emphasis on strategic planning, providing participants with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle the toughest challenges.
From smoke-filled challenges to global connections, Forest Camp 2024 was an inferno of excitement. Over 100 participants and instructors were divided into eight groups, each tackling different scenarios designed to push boundaries and ignite passions. The event not only provided practical, hands-on experience but also fostered priceless connections, shared knowledge, and new ideas for the future.
Beyond the rigorous training, the camp was characterized by a strong sense of community and collaboration. The networking and family atmosphere were palpable, with participants building relationships that will last a lifetime. The event was a testament to the power of collaboration in reshaping the concept of wildland firefighting in Europe and beyond.
As we celebrate the success of this year’s Forest Camp, we extend our gratitude to the organizers for bringing everyone together and creating an outstanding event. The knowledge and experiences gained, coupled with the memories and friendships formed, ensure that we are moving in the right direction.
At Vallfirest, we are proud to be at the forefront of such transformative experiences, leading the way in wildland firefighting innovation. Looking ahead, we eagerly anticipate next year’s edition of Forest Camp, with details to be announced soon. Until then, we carry forward the lessons learned, the strategies devised, and the bonds formed, all of which will continue to fan the flames of collaboration and innovation in wildland firefighting.
